I won’t sugarcoat it: Work can be hell on your health.

You’re there to achieve your dreams and goals, create a life for yourself and your family. And yet the lifestyle is draining the life out of you.

You know you should be healthier. Eat better. Work out. Sleep more, drink less.

It just feels impossible to make happen in real life.

You might believe that it’s your lack of willpower that’s to blame — keeping you from losing weight or practicing self-care.

But the reality is, the corporate set-up is not doing you any favors.

Does any of this sound familiar…

You wake up to your alarm, not feeling rested but not having the option to sleep in. (Didn’t you used to sleep really well? Those nights seem few and far between lately.)

You race around getting ready, run out the door, and as soon as possible, grab your first coffee of the day.

Before you’re even to your desk, your brain gets wound up in emails, to-do lists and the stress of your commute…

The morning goes by in a blur – more coffee, maybe a bagel if you’re feeling truly desperate for  energy, and an endless stream of emails and work demands.

Lunch is whatever is quickest, easiest and doesn’t leave you feeling guilty — 9 times out of 10, a bland salad fro the usual spot. You eat it while reading news, responding to emails and scrolling through instagram, barely paying attention to the food in front of you.

By mid-afternoon, you hit an energy slump and turn to more coffee or a guilt-ridden sugary snack from the vending machine to keep you going.

No time for the gym after work (more guilt) because you’ve got a dinner out to get to — meaning restaurant-sized portions and more wine than you really need on a weeknight.

Instead of going to bed afterwards, you catch up on things at home, start reading emails and fall down a social media rabbit hole. Before you know it, it’s almost midnight and you’re still wide awake.

When you do finally drift off to sleep, it’s only a few short hours until you wake up to start all over again…

The thing is, you don’t have to live like this. There is another way. A better way. A way that gives you the ability to thrive in your busy life -- no matter what.

And that’s building wellness in and taking the sabotaging behaviors out.

So, what does wellness really mean?
And what would it look like for you?

It might seem like it takes sugar-free, carb-free, fun-free food, hours spent in meditation or brutal soul-killing workouts to be the healthiest version of yourself.

The truth is, wellness is not just skipping dessert, running a marathon or swilling gallons of celery juice.

My approach to wellness is holistic — meaning that I believe your health and your quality of life are driven by the whole picture of your day-to-day habits and experiences:

  • What you eat throughout your day — AND how much you enjoy your food.
  • How stress impacts you on a daily basis and what steps you take (constructive or not) to cope.
  • How well you sleep at night — getting to sleep, staying asleep, and the quality of that rest — and how that impacts your levels of energy and mental clarity.
  • How satisfied and stimulated you are by your career and your passions outside of work.
  • The quality and health of your relationships with your family, your spouse, your kids, friends and community.
  • Whether or not you feel a sense of spiritual connection and have an inner space of peace.
  • And impacting all of the above, the quality of your MOST important relationship — the one you have with yourself.

Here are some of the lifestyle solutions that I offer to positively impact all of these areas of your life:

  • Shifting towards a whole foods, plant-based diet to reap the benefits of fueling your body with delicious, nutrition-packed foods — and HOW to make this work seamlessly in real life.
  • Developing meditation and mindfulness practices that can be done for a few minutes every day to immediately give you a sense of inner calm no matter what your day is throwing at you.
  • Implementing strategies to get you moving throughout the day and sticking to your workouts despite a hectic schedule.
  • Stressor-specific mental tools you can use to motivate yourself into action, stick to your well-laid plans and maneuver around triggering people and situations in your life.
  • Prioritizing self-care — not just in a bubble baths and manicures type of way (those are great) but by becoming attuned to your own emotional needs and developing the tools to create your own happiness each day.
